Local Attractions and Amenities

The borough of Fareham is situated between the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton in Hampshire on the south coast of the UK. The town centre is approximately two miles from Ellerslie House Hotel and has a multi-screen cinema and numerous restaurants.

Ellerslie is an ideal base for tourists wishing to explore the south coast’s attractions – many of which are linked to the sea and the area’s rich maritime history. We’ve listed a few that are well worth a visit. The New Forest to the West - now a National Park - is within easy reach. The Isle of Wight is also within easy reach and the seafronts at Gosport and Hill Head are popular destinations for windsurfers/sailboarders and jet-skiers.

It’s also incredibly handy for those journeying to France and beyond by car – Portsmouth’s continental ferry port is just a few minutes away.

 

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - visit the world-famous historic ships at the home of the Royal Navy. Go aboard HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and see the Mary Rose Museum for the best day out in the South of England.

 

Port Solent - Port Solent to the north of Portsmouth harbour is the south coast's premier destination marina. Visit the quality shops and choose where to eat.

  Gunwharf Quays - in an historic setting, with the famous Dockyard and Old Portsmouth only a short walk away, it is where you can shop at nearly 100 designer outlets, eat at one of 30 bars and restaurants, work out at the health and fitness centre, watch a film at the 14-screen Vue cinema, bowl at the 26-lane Bowlplex, laugh with Highlights comedy club, dance the night away at Tiger Tiger, then stay at the new Express by Holiday Inn.
 

Portchester Castle's commanding location has made it a major factor in the Solent's defences for hundreds of years.
The most impressive and best-preserved of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts, Portchester Castle was originally built in the late 3rd century.
 

Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve - A nationally renowned nature reserve, celebrated as a winter refuge for ducks, geese and wading birds, and summer breeding ground for the rare Avocet.
